When we think of Barfly by Buddha Bar, our first thought is of its nightlife credentials. After all, it was named Highly Commended in the bar category at our 2016 Music and Nightlife Awards. But how about its food offerings? Namely, is it worth coming here just to eat?

And the answer is yes. Its menu of Asian-inspired bites is the perfect complement to the bar’s inventive mixed beverages. It also means you can snack on light dishes over the course of a night out.

Bar seating, lounge areas, a more formal dining section and a terrace gives you your first dilemma for an evening here. But wherever you sit, it’s a classy experience. Visually, it’s quite an assault on the senses; red velvet, LED lights, metallic staircases and statues adorn the venue, which is also quite moody in places.

The friendly service also impresses, through its warmth and efficiency. You’ll be welcomed pleasantly and seated quickly, leaving you to enjoy the food and ambience.

It’s the small, light, tapas-style dishes that impress the most. A simple bowl of edamame sprinkled with sea salt makes for a moreish start to a meal here. The dim sum, too, is an impressive early dish to order, perfectly flavoured and pretty to look at, served in a traditional wooden basket.

Sushi is a big deal here. The bar even dedicates Sunday nights to this Japanese favourite. And you can see why. Barfly’s offerings are fresh and varied, perfect to pick at while sitting at the bar, or to order as a platter with a group of friends.

If you have Barfly down in your diary for drinks alone, change it to dinner and drinks. Trust us, you won’t regret it.
