Boccaccio
Romantic Italian restaurant with al fresco seating areas 3 Reviews
Be careful of where you sit at Boccaccio, because if you are out on the romantic twilight terrace, you will soon lose your fuzzy glow as it is gradually replaced by starvation due to your seeming invisibility to the waiting staff. However, once you have managed to shout, flap about and do a Mexican wave to get their attention, the food is consistently and immobilisingly delightful.
A starter of Parma ham with buffalo mozzarella is always a good test of an Italian restaurant’s mettle, and Boccaccio excels in terms of quality and generosity. The piping hot risotto al tartufo with black truffles and white truffle paste has the rich, fungal tang so often lacking in more anaemic interpretations. The pizzas, although festooned in sauce and toppings, refuse to become soggy, and the tagliatelle with its porcine mushroom cream holds its own against all of the above in its smooth, unvarnished simplicity. A flag-inspired mint and strawberry pannacotta is a faultless must for dessert. Cool, light and delicately flavoursome.
So, if your want for delicious dishes triumphs your ego, then by all means visit Boccaccio – you can even try sitting outside, as the coastal view really is lovely. But perhaps come prepared to eschew your customary discretion in favour of reflective gear and a loudhailer.
