The hotel buffet is far from endangered in Abu Dhabi Reviews

The hotel buffet is far from endangered in Abu Dhabi. In fact, it’s very much the dominant species – the alpha meal, you could say. The city’s seasoned buffet hunters are well-practised in stalking their meals in packs, annexing small areas to pick off the choice cuts. Meanwhile, lone wolves circle the prey more daintily, awaiting the optimum striking moment. It’s a diner eat din(n)er world out there. That there is a lot of competition in front of, and behind, the serving plates is unsurpirsing.

On first glance, The Garden is a sleek bit of kit, and first tastes don’t disappoint. The hearty bowl of spicy cauliflower soup is a treat; a rich, creamy spoonful with the most petulant of kicks to it.

The daoud basha is a gently spiced Lebanese meatball dish, which is thick, rustic fare, but perhaps lacks that injection of flavour. At the noodle station, there is plenty of tempura (the battered hammour is particularly good) and king prawns. The chef will make a noodle soup before your eyes, which adds a refreshing dose of ceremony to the evening – something sadly lacking in usual buffet dining.

For dessert, there is a disappointing lack of chocolate on offer. A steady supply of mini tarts (milk and nutmeg, custard, pecan), Arabic sweets and cinnamon doughnuts are scant compensation, although a decent strawberry cheesecake eases the pain.

In the end, The Garden only suffers from having to compete with so many other restaurants of a similar ilk. It looks good, the food is solid, the staff are excellent and the price is reasonable. It might lack that ‘wow’ factor, but the same could be said of many of its rivals.

Friday brunch is really good. Been about 4 times now. Really good value for 160 dhs inc unlimited bubbly and/or mojitos and soft drinks.
Roast meat station is really good - one of our party found the meat a little rare and so the chef carved the meat and took it into the kitchen and cooked it a little more on the grill for him, then delivered it to our table! At the pasta sation you choose which pasta you like, fresh veg and sauces for the chef to cook for you. The new salad selection was very fresh and the seafood section was brilliant! There is also a very good selection of hot dishes from around the world. The desserts always look amazing too.
We'll definitely be going back again!

Went with the Mrs for dinner. Good service but terrible Buffet. No hot appetizer, salad was not fresh, only 3 plain choices for main course, and nothing with chocolate for desert! Felt like leftover food.
Don't understand how they can charge aprox. 200pp with a straight face. Heard the brunch was good but will never find out.
