Al Fanar

Revolving restaurant with excellent international cuisine Reviews

The food at Al Fanar is fantastic, and comes with a perpetually changing view as the restaurant revolves. The transnational menu takes in dishes like monkfish tail with cous cous, veal fillet with mushroom dumplings, malva pudding with black truffle ice cream, and most dishes are done very well.

The breathtaking views through tall windows further help to make the meal memorable. The decor feels a little like an ’80s version of what the future might look like, but is pleasant and simple and serves not to distract from the view.

This is somewhere that should definitely be on everyone’s list of must-eat places.

I took my husband here for his birthday last night, and for those looking to impress on (somewhat) of a budget, this is the place. The service was considerate and efficient, and we spent a relaxed and quiet evening watching the sights below. The rotation certainly didn't make us sick; it was very slow and only occassionally could we feel anything. The decor was muted with solid tables and chairs, but the candles added to the ambience. We were treated to some live piano playing and jazz singing that we didn't expect but enjoyed. The cuisine was the real star.

Although the menu isn't super long, each dish is unique and the it was hard enough to choose among the delicious French dishes on offer. It was clear that only the freshest ingredients were used and prepared with artisic flare. We had lobster ravioli, foi gras, lamb roast, and turbot. I had never eaten turbot (a fish) before, and might not order it again because of the texture, but the sauce and accompaniments were very tasty. Vegetarians might want to call ahead as there weren't a lot of meatless dishes, but I get the feeling that the menu changes regularly.

We paid 725 AED for two appetizers and two entrees, including the service and tourism fees, as well as a sizable tip. But there were certainly slightly more affordable, as well as much more expensive, options in the menu. The brunch deal sounds good, and they also offer a business lunch deal 90 AED for two course or 120 AED for three, and if it takes longer than 45 minutes it's free.

One more thing: bring a jacket or sweater because the A/C's cranked up a little high.

The situation of the restaurant is very good, you can enjoy the best view of Abu Dhabi while dining. The food and the taste is fantastic, you can feel that chef is making "art" on your dishes. However, the light is too dark that you hardly see your food.

I went with my friends and the food was WOW! The Lamb roast was so tender it was melting in our mouth. The duck and veal were so perfectly cooked and there were no leftovers. A friend ordered the Seafood platter, the food was great but it was quiet messing(but that was expected, its grilled lobsters) . The Food was prsented so majestically you didnt feel like touching it for a whole of 5 mins. But all thoughts about how good the food looked was forgotten once you had a taste of it.
The lighting I found fault with because it was quiet dim and we had to stare quiet intently to see the food clearly but as we move the ocassion spotlight was cast on our meal and the smiles of pure pleasure could not be missed. People with motion sickness stay away!! Once in awhile you can feel it move which might put you off. But if you get over that, the food is great and quiet worth the sum you pay!
