The Al Nahyan area has become something of a dining hub lately.

We went to Biancorosso in the Y Tower to see how fair the Italian fare is in the area.

Entering the restaurant, the absence of table-cloths gives something of a cafeteria feel, but the Italian merchandise hanging from the ceiling, the walls and the shelves makes it feel warm and authentic, if not a little kitsch.

Friendly staff welcomed us as we entered the quiet pizzeria. The service was flawless for the entire meal, friendly and warm. The set-up is fairly casual, which made us feel right at home.

The menu is not an in-depth Italian spread, rather a simplistic execution of the classics. You won’t see risottos or truffles coming from the kitchen. We choose a bruschetta to start, and a pasta and pizza for our mains. The dishes were served promptly, impressive given their fresh and oven-baked quality.

The bruschetta tasted good, but lacked variation, we used the balsamic on the table to season it rather than the dish coming with any on it. The ingredients, simply tomato and basil on bread, were good and fresh but it could have used more of a mixture of flavours to give the dish some depth.

We enjoyed watching the live-cooking station to assemble pizzas, as did a few of the children around us while we waited for our mains to be served.

The pasta, a penne dino, came with a cooked-dough lid which was novel. The pizza overwhelmed in its size. We tucked in with Italian music enriching the experience.

The penne dino was a creamy masterpiece. The sauce was rich and homely – the pasta perfectly cooked and the broccoli was complementary to the sauce. The serving size is just right, the simple flavours were in harmony.

The pizza was delicious, the thin and crispy home-made based with just the right amount of cheese and flavour. The roasted capsicum and onion was delicious. The only fault of the pizza was the black olives – they tasted a bit cheap and dry. Never mind – we picked them off and were happy with everything else. The highlight of the evening was when the waiter offered us some chili for the pizza, and a homemade olive oil infusion was handed to us to drizzle over it.

We opted out of dessert, though will be sure to sample the tiramisu on our next visit because we will surely be coming back to Biancorosso. For what was a pleasant meal, we were even more satisfied when the bill came.

The bill (for two)
Bruschetta Dhs18
Penne dino Dhs45
Mediterranea pizza Dhs45
Total (excluding service) Dhs108

I got to know Biancorosso Pizzeria when they visited our college as part of an exhibition regarding international foods. I got introduced to their Tiramisu through one of our faculty who had just bought a couple of plates from their stand.
I decided to pay them a visit, as I know one of the partners who is Estonian married to an Italian and working with Italian Business council here. The other partner who actually supervises the cooking is a lovely Italian lady who I happened to meet in our college during the food fest. I was so taken by the taste of their foods that I decided to pay them a visit that same night with my wife.
We took their Veggie Pizza and some pasta. Then we had a chocolate fudge (and another couple of Tiramisus) and I ended up with an espresso.
The ambience of the place is sweet and very family like. The staff working there (expecially the Moroccan waiter) were very friendly (as the owners were not back yet for the evening they were working in the exhibition in the college that day).
Their Pizza was very light...and tasty. I liked the pasti too.
Their Espresso smelled and tasted like REAL espresso, something we really miss here.
Service is one of the best in town. It was actually 5 minutes that we got our main dishes.
What I liked most is that they presented what they knew best and didnt venture into areas they didnt feel comfertable with. They are an Italian Pizzeria and that is what they presented.
What I missed is the glass of wine with the Pizza.
The place is on the pricy edge, but you do pay for quality

So, starting off with the obvious, the decor is forgettable at best.
The service people are polite, though not too forthcoming when asked about their opinion on food-choices, they also appear mildly confused when asked to alter any of the dishes.
The fried dough balls were hard to chew, oily and tasted a bit like clay.
The pizza was much better. I tried capricosa and the bread was fresh (albeit too thin, allowing the toppings to overpower it) but the tomato sauce they used was too watery, and 15 minutes into the meal, made everything soggy.
It would be the best pizza in town, if scoppanapoli, bice and biella didn't exist, which thankfully, they do.

I tried placing a delivery order from this Restaurant. I was told the food was going to be delivered in one hour. After two hour and three calls the food never showed up...

These people forgot that Restaurants are about service, let alone consideration. I can understand being shorthanded one evening and not being able to deliver an order; all it takes is a single phone call and telling the truth, instead of telling your customer "we will be there in 15 minutes..."
