Decent pizza at the Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi 2 Reviews

Let’s get things straight from the beginning: this pizza is never going to rival that slice you had on your honeymoon in Rome, and it can’t compete with those restaurants that have wood fired ovens tucked away. This is mall pizza. This is the place that you head to before or after seeing a movie, or if you need something substantial for lunch during a shopping trip.
Having said all that, Figaro’s does pretty good mall pizza, certainly better than some of the other regular suspects that we could name who so often yield up soggy, oily fare that leave your insides feeling a bit on the slick side.
The location of Figaro’s in Marina Mall, on the first floor tucked away by the top of the unfortunate ski slope, means you may have missed it – but luckily for them enough people do know where it is to ensure that it does a decent trade. The seating is slightly more civilized than in your average food court, helped by the out-of-the-way nature of the restaurant, but you still know that you’re in a fast food joint.
When we visited the other diners were a mix of families, couples and small groups grabbing a quick bite. Feeling pretty peckish after a hard morning’s shopping, we ordered a starter of cheesy breadsticks. The word ‘sticks’ don’t adequately describe what arrived at our table a few minutes later. ‘Breadbricks’ is probably better. Fluffy, doughy bricks with a thin layer of cheese on top, accompanied by a salsa dipping sauce that was more like a chunky tomato ketchup. After two sticks each (they come in servings of four or eight) we were pretty stuffed, but managed to find room to squeeze in a slice or two of the creamy garlic chicken pizza that followed.
Ordinarily pizza purists, we were able to forgive the lack of the classic tomato sauce because of just how creamy and garlicky the creamy garlic sauce in this instance was, and it made a nice change.
The toppings – chicken, olives, onion, green peppers and tomatoes – were pretty standard, fast food pizza gubbins. They were neither spectacular nor terrible, but it all added up to a pretty tasty mouthful that was crispy and bready rather than greasy and oily – no doubt helped by the fact that we’d ordered the thin crust. The garden salad we had on the side was utterly unremarkable. A bit of greenery to ease your junk food guilt if you feel the need, but otherwise boring and lackluster.
Overall, Figaro’s hits the spot. And even better, they deliver too.
