Simple but pricey bar food in scruffy surrounds Reviews

Meal Deal
Friday brunch

The lovely outdoor garden area makes for a fantastic alfresco setting for a brunch with a tastes from the likes of Greek favourite Acropolis, Italian restaurant Pappagallo and British-style pub, The Captain’s Arms. Entertainment is also provided by a live band and there is a dedicated kids’ zone (Friday)

An endearing wooden structure that’s separate from the main hotel, The Village Club might be a little rough around the edges, but it does have a certain charm. From the lush green lawns that surround it to the hanging baskets inside, the atmosphere is easy-going and rustic. Locals smoke shisha and play backgammon in the vast main room, while the staff serve up steaming platefuls of simple bar food. It’s best not to expect too much from a meal here; the food is as laid-back as the atmosphere, with hearty dishes of satay, shrimp, burgers and fries on the short menu prepared with varying levels of success (the satay is succulent and spicy, the shrimp chewy and overcooked). Stop by to smoke some shisha, enjoy the selection of refreshing juices and play some board games, and if you work up an appetite the food will fill you up - but it doesn’t come cheap.

We visited the village club for xmas brunch 2010. It was very poor indeed

1. We arrived at the club at approx 14:00, it was very quiet however nobody greeted us. At least 4 of your staff just watched us walk towards them and we had no idea where to go. My wife said it was uncomfortable being watched by staff until we were actaully near the buffet before somebody greeted us.
2. When we went to the buffet for Turkey, nobody was there to carve the meat.
3. The hot food was cold.
4. You had 1 selection of potato for a xmas dinner.
5. You had sprouts and caramalised sweet red cabbage. No peas, sweetcorn, carrots or brocolli.
6. We listened to country and western xmas songs.
7. No yorkshire puddings
8. The waiters had to be asked to clear the plates ( i saw 2 of them playing with there mobile phones on more than 1 occassion)

Please do not visit this location. Very bad experience

We used to go there al the time last year, but they have the worst service in towns, plus the increased prices, very bad menu, as we usually don't find interesting choices. At the end we decided not to go there anymore, and we don't.
