Simple and hearty Egyptian fare 1 Reviews
This clean, airy and surprisingly spacious Egyptian restaurant in the heart of Tourist Club Area offers a vast menu of juices, seafood dishes, grills and mezze. The food is hit and miss, with the cold mezze a little disappointing; better-prepared versions can be found in the nearby Lebanese restaurants, and the fattoush is a particular let-down, with chewy, stale pieces of toasted bread swimming in a tasteless dressing. Skip to the hot dishes, however, and you won’t go far wrong. The shish tawouk is well-cooked, and while the tangy fish sayadia tastes of little more than white fish in tomato sauce, it is perfectly cooked, making it hard to resist a second serving. Busy office workers looking for a new lunchtime eatery would do well to discover Abu Shakrah – the food might not be perfect, but the setting is pleasant, the service is good and the price is right.
