It’s difficult to get Italian cuisine wrong – hearty pastas, risottos and sauces are sometimes exactly what you need to get through the day. But it’s even more difficult to get Italian just right, and, for the most part, Filini succeeds.

The restaurant itself is spacious and understated, with hardwood floors, an elegant bar and comfortable cream and brown furnishings. In the winter, the outdoor area is far more popular, but indoors is perfectly fine. Even when crowded, there’s an air of peace in Filini, and the serving staff are more than competent at maintaining it. Staff are knowledgeable, friendly and responsible: our table of four ordered the large versions of two starters, the cured meats and cheese antipasti (Gorganzola, parmigiano reggiano and milano salami amongst other goodies) and the mixed seafood antipasti. Our waiter was kind enough to explain that the smaller portions were more than enough for the four of us, as indeed they were.

Starters were solid and rather straightforward, if a bit plain. One of our more curious companions ordered a side of polenta (a dish made from boiled cornmeal) served with some creamy mushrooms; the mushrooms we liked, but the polenta just escaped our notice.

The mains on the other hand escaped no one’s notice: Filini is a quality restaurant overall, but authentic Italian mains are truly where the chef shines. The steaming seafood risotto was perfectly cooked and well presented, and flew off the plate before dinner companions could claim a sample. And the crispy, signature Filini pizza (tomato, mozzarella, pecorino, prosciutto and rocket) was delicious, and large enough to share.

And you will want to share it, because you need to save some room for the sweets. Here, we suggest you skip the ice creams altogether (not because they’re bad, but because you can get ice cream anywhere) and instead dig into one of the proper Italian desserts such as the great signature tiramisu.

Good food but expensive. I guess all restaurants in this area are around the same price , so yes i would recommend if you were staying on Yas island.

Very good italian food, real tasty and genuine.

The chief cook is from the north of Italy, so prefer meat and pasta than fish. Antipasti 10, Pasta, 10, Meat 9, Fish 6, Desserts 10.

Family's first choice in Abu Dhabi.

Filini restaurant is very nice place. I went there with my family, looking for italian food, and it was the right choice.
Pizza and pasta were very good!
My little daughter tryed POLENTA, that is an italian dish not very common, and it was delicious!
The staff is friendly. The waiter was very kind, especially with my daughters.
We went there also the night after.
Definitely a piece of Italy in the Emirates, that makes my country not so far.

Sorry, but food was just awful. The right question is asked in the description of this resto from above: how can they cook that bad? Tri-color ravioli were just dumplings with plain tasteless chicken swimming in butter. Could only eat two and then had stomach pain all night.

We had a table of 11 for a midweek work celebration. The greeting area was very plush, the service was attentive and the drinks and nibbles were plentiful.
And then we sat down for dinner. The outside terrace is a lovely area with an attractive view which meant that the detioriation in service and the quality of food was a real shame.
There were some highlights, I loved my pudding. But the tapas plates with of varying quality and the lamb rump was the worst main I have ever been served. It was a plate of chewy dried out luke warm slices covered in a thick sticky gravey. I think it was on the heat of the sauce that made them warm. This is the first time I have ever sent a main course back in my life.
At 11pm we telephoned the restaurant to ask for someone to come out and take our drinks order, and they weren't exactly over booked.
The staff took my main off the bill without quibble, but including 1 main free vouchers the bill still came out at about AED300 pp including tax.
This is my first review and I only felt compelled to write it because this is the first time I have ever sent a main course back in my life.
