This high-end Vietnamese eatery has impressed in the past with its well-cooked seafood and tender meats, subtle Asian flavours and creative dishes – even receiving a highly commended gong in last year’s TOAD awards. Unfortunately, it seems standards have slipped a little since then. The first problem is the length of time between being seated and actually receiving your food – you'll wait. And wait. And wait. And when the food does eventually arrive, it is sadly lacking in places; starters are still succulent and satisfying, but mains of braised duck were, on our visit, tough and chewy. The black cod is, thankfully, more successful; well-cooked with a subtle sweetness that doesn’t overpower the delicate flavour of the fish. The ambience is still pleasant and the service polite and friendly, but there are plenty of glitches that need ironing out if it wants to repeat its previous successes.

Knowing the Manageress of this restaurant I found the service to be brilliant and is a microcasm of what Abu Dhabi is all about. Quiet, quality service and everything done in a first class manor.

The food was good although not much you'll understand on the menu. You can ask the waitress but I discovered from most of the restaurants you'll know the food when you order it. At Hoi Ann, do not alyways depend on what you order specially when you are not that hungry because waiter/waitresses will keep coming with small portion of food as complimentary. Overall, the food was good and the atmosphere was relaxing and some how quiet. Will surely come back.

The food and ambience were very good. While staff were courteous, they seemed to have little knowledge about the menu (both food and drinks). Our server did not know what draft beer was available and had to go back few times to ask the bar tender. When asked if my food (had the ribs -- which were great) were served on bone, the answer was yes, while it was served with the meat pulled from the bone. When asked if the dish was spicy, I was told the spicy sauce is served on the side as a condiment -- The dish never came with any spicy condiment! Will go back though
