Jazz Bar

From Time Out Abu Dhabi Eating Out 2010
There are two separate sections to the Jazz Bar: an impressive semi-circular glass bar and a raised platform containing a more formal dining area. Either makes for a highly enjoyable evening. The menu is not extensive, but what it lacks in quantity it certainly makes up for in flair and quality. Must-try appetisers include the scallops, foie gras and the superb creamy lobster bisque with dumplings. And, while the chef is often guilty of one-ingredient-too-many syndrome, the entrées, which are predominantly seafood, are worth their weight in saffron, especially the excellent Dover sole with white truffle risotto. Around 9pm, the house band starts up, churning out laidback jazz with admirable restraint before moving onto livelier numbers, increasing its pace and volume in line with the evening’s atmosphere.
Conversation becomes difficult and communication descends to just smiles and hand gestures, but it’s worth it. The service is very good and there’s an impressive wine list, which accompanies some inventive cocktails. However, it’s not just the vibe that’s cool here – the arctic blasts from the a/c will chill you to the bone. In the end, Jazz Bar is a comfortable bar that serves excellent food in pleasant surroundings. The loud jazz band may deter some, but they’re the ones missing out.
