Pampering service and a classy décor is where Royal Orchid really hits the mark. A small bar at the entranceway is ideal for an aperitif, and a few steps past the foyer reveals a plush interior with soft lighting and a high ceiling, lending the place an airy feel. The management clearly has a sharp eye for ensuring every customer is well tended to, while the menu is only slightly less efficient. Competent Thai and Chinese food is what you can expect. At times this rises above the standard, such as in its vegetarian Thai green curry, a medley of broccoli, carrots and bell peppers swimming in a savoury mix of spices and coconut milk.
It comes served in a bowl that hovers above a tea-light, keeping the food warm from first bite to last. It’s a nice touch and surely where Royal Orchid is at its best. The ‘Magic Wok’ is similarly appealing, a centerpiece dish which allows diners to combine sundry meats, vegetables and sauces for a customised entrée. Royal Orchid undoubtedly has a few neat tricks up its sleeve; the food is largely good and generously proportioned too, which certainly explains its popularity.
