Kazu
From Time Out Abu Dhabi Eating Out 2010
A new addition to the ever-expanding Japanese dining scene, Kazu has a good menu that throws a few traditional dishes into the usual mix of sushi and teppanyaki. The regulars are all present and correct, of course – the teppan chef is as good a sword juggler as any other in the capital, and the nigiri is the right mix of moist, sweet rice and wonderfully fresh catch. The highlight here, however, is the unagi – hands down the best broiled eel we’ve tasted in the UAE. Elsewhere, the udon soup is cheap enough and worth a punt, and any of the miso dishes hit the spot equally well. The restaurant itself feels a little as though it has been squeezed into a spare end of the hotel, but book ahead, grab a seat on the veranda, and enjoy some of the better washoku this city has to offer. Kazu is well worth keeping an eye on.
