Hemingway's
From Time Out Abu Dhabi Eating Out 2010
A popular and lively bar with a house band and plenty of Tex-Mex pub grub, Hemingways is friendlier than most, despite the intimidating bouncers outside. With its solid white walls and wide arches, it looks like an underground cellar and, sure enough, there is a large bar that’s well stocked with beers. The ever-present glow of the sports channel illuminates every nook, and while Papa Hemingway himself might not approve of this, it is unlikely a man of his carnivorous appetites would turn down the meat-heavy menu.
The food has improved since last time we were there, but it’s still standard Tex-Mex pub grub that comes in jumbo-sized portions at a good price. You’d be well-advised to steer clear of any dish that contains ‘salsa’ or ‘bbq sauce’ as they are both euphemisms for industrial tomato ketchup, an ingredient the chef simply can’t get too much of. The Caesar salad is fit for two, though, and the burgers are big enough to sink a ship. The service is also good, with seemingly everlasting battery-powered waitresses that scoot around all night, and the dining area is set apart from the main bar so you won’t be bothered by smoke and noisy punters while you dine.
