Café Moka
Shopping mall snack stop serves up a wide variety of foods 1 Reviews
From Time Out Abu Dhabi Eating Out 2010
Having set up shop in two of Abu Dhabi’s finest monuments to consumerism, this knockabout café is clearly hoping to siphon off a few consumer dirhams, but it’s maybe not somewhere you would go out of your way for. Certainly, if you have a choice, few would opt for the bafflingly ill-lit Marina Mall branch; instead, the light and airy Abu Dhabi Mall version is infinitely preferable. The choice in food is pretty much the same though. The menu errs on the safe side of ‘all-encompassing’ and suffers from trying to please too many, with everything from spring rolls to chicken kievs spanning the culinary ocean. Stick to the basics and you won’t go too far wrong though. They don’t do a bad toasted sandwich and the burger in particular is rather good. You can also pick up a decent breakfast here, should you be one of those early bird shoppers with your eye on a bargain. The breakfast menu walks a capable line between Arabic (labneh, halloumi and foul) and Western (vegetarian omelette) breakfasts. But while we like that their full English has baked beans in it (always overlooked in the capital), only Mr Moka himself (should he exist) could explain why it also has cucumber. Like we said, sometimes you can try too hard.
