From Time Out Abu Dhabi Eating Out 2010
A hotel lobby is not usually a destination dining place, but when the hotel in question is the Emirates Palace, the prospect takes on a whole new dimension. Making a simple pot of Earl Grey becomes a performance: the waitress arrives with a shiny gold trolley and tinkers like a chemist to present you with a silver tray of components that combine to make the perfect cup. But, despite the fancy surroundings and service, the menu is pleasantly down to earth, serving sandwiches, salads and burgers.
The club sandwich is too big to get your mouth round, so tuck in with your dainty silverware. This doesn’t help make it taste any better than your average pub grub, however. A better bet is the burger, which is a cut above thanks to the succulent Angus beef patty. Don’t worry about finding room for the tempting-looking pastries and cakes behind the glass counter – they’re not worth the calories. Instead, enjoy one of its zingy and delicious smoothies, packed with fruits and ice. All this comes at a particularly hefty price for a café, but it’s the cheapest way to dine at the Palace, and you’ve got to do that at least once in your life.
