Toki is one of my favorite AD restaurants! I love Japanese food and this is the best on offer. The service s a little hit and miss at times but with the help of the buzzer I can forgive this. Great saki, good Japanese beer, and the best sushimi! And the flavored ice creams covered in rice flour are amazing.

Toki serves some of the best seafood in Abu Dhabi. I've eaten there a dozen or more times over the past year because of the consistently high quality of the food. But I will not eat there again because of the poor quality of service. Greeting guests like they would be greeted in a restaurant in Japan is a nice touch, but once seated inside, unlike a restaurant in Japan, guests become a nuisance to the servers who are more interested in chatting with each other than paying attention to the paying customers. Recently I was seated in a booth where I could watch the sushi chef prepare my order, and watched as the sushi platter he'd diligently prepared sat for 10 minutes. The servers walked by it several times, but ignored the dish. If the restaurant had been busy, I might have understood the slowness of the delivery. But I could see people sitting at only four other tables – the restaurant was not crowded at all. In previous visits to Toki, I’ve had orders forgotten and many times waited for what I considered to be too much time for my food. Unfortunately, Toki is another Abu Dhabi restaurant that can't get it right.

I recently moved to Abu Dhabi from Dubai and I was looking for a good sushi restaurant. After reading the generally positive reviews of this restaurant, my wife and I decided to try it. Unfortunately, ours was a disappointing experience. The setting was OK, the food was just OK (nothing to be excited about), but the cost to quantity ratio was shocking. For AED352 we ate half of what we usually had at Sumo in Dubai (and which cost half as much). The sashimi pieces were particularly small! Then of course there is the 10% service charge and a 6% "tourism fee". We won't go there again.

Toki provides a discreetly elegant setting - minimal without being austere - for a wonderful experience. First timers, we stuck mostly to sushi, although a spicy seafood salad starter was terrific - a heaping helping of perfeclty fresh scallops, calamari, shrimp, and fish on an equally excellent bed of salad, all with a light, definitely spicy dressing and a layer of lovely glass noodles tieing the whole thing together.

The sushi was also definitely fresh, and the sushi boat assortment, augmented with a couple of delicious rolls, proved a satisfying meal for two. Toki's not the cheapest Japanese around, but it delivers in terms of quality of its ingredients, attentiveness of its service, and an atmosphere of understated, sophisticated calm. Highly recommended.

Now my favourite Japanese restaurant in Abu Dhabi. Especially love the fact that I don't have to drive too far now, as I live in Khalidiya!
