Police have slashed the speed limit on an Abu Dhabi route in a bid to combat a rise in traffic accidents.

The speed limit on the Al Fayah-Seih Shaib Road outside of the capital was cut from 100kph to 80kph for all light and heavy vehicles at the start of the month.

Colonel Ahmed Al Shahi, director of the Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate, said the move had been sparked by an increase in the number of accidents recorded on the stretch during the first half of 2017.

He said: “We call on motorists to abide by the new speed limit which was reduced from 100km/h to 80km/h and to observe other traffic rules and regulations which aim to save lives and boost traffic safety on roads.”
