Summer is almost here – and the entertainment is about to really heat up in the capital.

Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA) has joined forces with leading UAE event organisers to produce a fun-packed line-up of events – from Bollywood and stand-up comedy to appearances from cartoon double act Tom and Jerry – ahead of the eagerly-awaited return of the Abu Dhabi Summer Season.

A raft of exciting events will be held at venues across the capital from July 20 to August 20 as tourism chiefs bid to cement the capital’s position as a ‘premium leisure destination’.

The summer spectacular is a key part of ongoing efforts to further bolster impressive visitor numbers in the capital, with the number of hotel guests in the city seeing a 4 percent rise in the first quarter of the year. The emirate hopes to attract 4.9 million hotel guests in 2017.

Along with a full calendar of shows for all the family, hotels, malls and visitor attractions will offer enticing promotions and prizes throughout the month-long festivities.

Cat and mouse favourites Tom and Jerry will be bringing their brand of slapstick fun to the stage for ten performances in Abu Dhabi City and Al Ain, while young fans will also have the chance to meet the duo during interactive workshops and meet and greet appearances.

Characters from popular television series ‘Iftah Ya Simsim’ – THE Arabic version of Sesame Street - will also be brightening up the summer with a special performance written for Abu Dhabi packed with cheery songs and dance routines.

Stand-up comedy will be providing a punchline to the event – with performers to be announced - while a Broadway-style Bollywood show, Balle Balle The Big Fat Indian Wedding, will be brought to the stage in both Abu Dhabi and Al Dhafra.

As part of India’s milestone 70th Independence Day, a world-famous Bollywood star will be appearing at Du Forum on August 18. An announcement on just who the top name is is set to be made soon.

H.E. Saif Saeed Ghobash, Director General TCA Abu Dhabi, said: “Abu Dhabi Summer Season is one of our anchor events and underpins the emirate’s credentials as a premium leisure destination.

Mubarak Al Shamsi, Director of Abu Dhabi Convention Bureau, TCA Abu Dhabi added: “We have a superb month-long series of shows, entertainment, promotions, prizes and offers showing just how much Abu Dhabi has to offer as a holiday destination which is exciting, affordable and with world-class accommodation and attractions.

Holding the emirate-wide Abu Dhabi Summer Season is a vital component of our strategy to reach our goal of 4.9 million hotel guest arrivals this year.”
