Buckle up, folks, because things are about to get bumpy! On August 15, an entertainment revolution begins.

That date sees the launch of IMG Worlds of Adventure, the first of no less than six massive theme parks hitting the region.

“We [all the theme parks] are creating a new sector of entertainment, of tourism,” IMG’s CEO Lennard Otto tells Time Out Kids. “Dubai could begin to operate on an Orlando 2.0 model, becoming a theme park hub.”

Next month’s issue will bring you the full lowdown on each of these parks (with exclusive on-site visits to all of them) but, for now, just know that you best start saving, because your kids are very soon going to be banging down your door to visit them all.

As well as IMG in August, opening in Dubai in October this year are – deep breath – Legoland, Legoland Waterpark, motiongate (aka the “Hollywood one”) and Bollywood Parks – all of which fall under the Dubai Parks and Resorts banner and will be located on Sheikh Zayed Road. Down the road in Abu Dhabi, Warner Brothers World will launch in 2018, as will 20th Century Fox World, on a site near Dubai Outlet Mall (and featuring representations from The Simpsons, Planet of the Apes, Titanic and more). Six Flags is also on the way in Dubai, with an estimated opening in 2019. See what we mean about you having to start saving now?

“We wanted a world-class offering from day one,” says Otto, whose IMG theme park will feature Marvel and Cartoon Network worlds (The Avengers and Ben 10 will star), as well as the Lost Valley: Dinosaur World, all under one massive air-conditioned roof and alongside 20 signature rides from all over the world, 25 retail spaces, 70 animatronic dinosaurs, 100 actors and 13 different cuisines. “The two biggest complaints in theme parks, typically,” says Otto, “are queuing and food. We have solved both of those problems, and we’re ready when you are...”
