A new desert resort is coming to Abu Dhabi.

UAE hoteliers Jumeirah have signed a deal to develop a property in the capital’s Al Wathba district.

Due to open in September 2018, Jumeirah Al Wathba Desert Resort will have hotel rooms, villas, a spa, restaurants, bars and an off-side desert camp.

It will be designed in classic Arabian style over 20,000 m sq. There will be 90 hotel rooms and 13 villas.

Dining options will include an all-day restaurant and there will be pool and rooftop bars as well as meeting and conference rooms.

Marc Dardenne, Jumeirah’s chief operating officer, says: “Growing the Jumeirah portfolio is one of our strategic priorities, and we are very pleased to partner with Abu Dhabi United Hospitality on this development initiative, aligned with the UAE Vision 2021.

“Jumeirah Al Wathba Desert Resort will be the 12th luxury Jumeirah hotel in the UAE and this innovative project offers Jumeirah a wonderful opportunity to showcase our truly Arabian hospitality. We are confident the resort will be an outstanding destination and will further boost tourism in the emirate.”

His Excellency Sultan Al Hemeiri, managing director of Abu Dhabi United Hospitality, adds: “We are excited about developing Jumeirah Al Wathba Desert Resort, which we believe will draw international attention, bolstering the UAE’s tourism potential.”

Jumeirah at Etihad Towers is the only other Jumeirah property in Abu Dhabi at the time of writing, though another hotel is planned for Saadiyat Island, also due to open in 2018.
