“The most important thing a man can take into combat is a reason why.” So says Chris Hemsworth’s Captain Mitch Nelson to his troops, all glued to live television coverage of the attacks of 9/11.

It’s a great line in a trailer that doesn’t really have much else in the way of greatness, which is a shame as the story is about as cinematic as they come: shortly after the attacks on the World Trade Center, a team of just a dozen men were deployed to Afghanistan, to take the fight right back to the Taliban. There they had to work with an Afghan warlord to get to the guts of the terrorist force, the 12 men taking the fight to 50,000, only adequately armed and riding into battle on horseback.

Perhaps the movie will outstrip the trailer (all we have to go on at the moment), but 12 Strong looks so predictably cast (hello, William Fichtner!), and chest-thumpingly scripted that it seems destined to be the new Lone Survivor.

The bottom line
Thor goes to war in this real-life epic.
