To mark Terminator 2: Judgment Day’s 26th anniversary, the combination of “3” and “D” has been added to the title. But does it end up merely an appendage to the immovable and unbreakable stature of this sci-fi classic
(T-1000 reference intended)?

Director James Cameron loves his 3D, having revamped Titanic in similar fashion back in April and breaking the US$2 billion (Dhs7 billion) gross benchmark in the process. But this is not just a money-making endeavour. Quite.

Beside the inevitable coinage this reels in, the film is still fantastic despite the supposed added oomph, which actually brings nothing much to the party. In its natural state back in 1991, the original was far ahead of its time, its special effects rightly warranting a spot in the history books. And if that laces this 3D conversion with a slight sense of irony, it’s still quite something to behold, the audience staring down the barrel of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s sawn-off as he swivels round on his motorbike.

If you’ve never had the chance to witness one of the greatest sequels ever up on the big screen (here’s hoping Cameron next dusts off Aliens), consider yourself in for an explosive treat. Time to say hasta la vista, baby. All over again.

The bottom line
Awesome as ever. And now with added VAT.
