Comedy about an overprotective father stars Bryan Cranston Discuss this article
Bryan Cranston’s latest attempt to be anything other than Walter White has taken him down a path more familiar to those who loved him before he became an underworld criminal boss.
But can this comedy about an overprotective father and his reckless, oafish and rather-a-little-too-old-for-all-this-sort-of-stuff son-in-law (James Franco) really do the former Malcolm in the Middle star any good?
Early indications are “no”, with a trailer dominated by childish, gross-out gags rather than any genuine comedy this sort of scenario – and indeed, the energy of the well-cast Franco – might have allowed for.
The bottom line
True comedy might be lacking in this one.
