Following the birth of their first child, during which Bella would have died had Edward not finally elected to ‘change’ her, the vampire husband-and-wife team must battle against a league of vampires, all claiming that the baby is a monster that cannot be allowed to live. So the stage is set for the final showdown. At this point in the franchise, a trip to the cinema is strictly for Twi-hards, of whom there were more than 2,000 camping outside the venue of the film’s premiere in LA in a frenzy of anticipation, days before the event.

If you do bag a ticket, expect more of the usual SFX, lip-wobbling melodrama, triangular love stories, overdetermined plotting, glittery make-up and not-really-trying-that-hard performances. Even in the hands of a director as talented as Bill Condon (the man who brought us Gods and Monsters and Kinsey), Breaking Dawn – Part One failed to be much of an improvement over previous episodes. Somehow, we doubt this one will break the mould.
