When you walk down the Corniche in Abu Dhabi, it's hard to believe it was little more than sand just a few decades ago.

Today the capital is full of amazing architecture and incredible landmarks, but it wasn't always the case.

Before the UAE was formed in 1971, the country looked a whole lot different to what it does today.

And for many of us who live here today, it's fascinating to learn more about the lives of those who called the UAE their home so many years ago.

So we've raided the archives to bring you some amazing photos of the country before the oil boom.
