Even though it’s the greatest time for family reunions, unapologetically eating an immeasurable amount of sugar and treating your wardrobe to new purchases, festivities can result in increased levels of holiday anxiety (yes, that’s a thing). The emotions you feel during the holiday season are almost as bad as those Saturday night scaries. It’s that feeling when you’re convinced you’ll never have fun again. This could be caused by not getting a table at your favourite Christmas brunch (we told you to book early!), or being unable to Skype your mum on Christmas Eve.

If you’re ready to take a break from it all, there’s the salt water floatation pool and pod at Point Zero Floatation Centre. They won’t just bring back that much-needed stillness in your life, they’ll also make you feel like you’ve successfully meditated
for entire day (without actually having to spend precious time doing so).

The serenity of floatation pools was first popularised by John Lilly in the 1950s, when his curiosity forced him to find out what it would be like to stay submerged in salt water for a long period of time. Then, in the ’70s, soul-searchers and tree-hugging hippies decided to practise this on a regular basis as part of daily meditation. Today, athletes use this technique to ease muscles, quieten the nervous system and stimulate senses.

At the Point Zero Floatation Center, you can choose to either hire a cabin or go in an individual pod for the duration of the treatment. The temperature of the water is set to 34°C and is filled with salt from the Dead Sea in Jordan. You can float for 30 minutes or go up to 90 minutes, depending on the level of relaxation you’re craving.

There’s an extensive menu of meditative music to select tunes from for the time you spend floating. And at the end of this session, you’re promised a calmer mind. No matter which one of Santa’s lists you’re on…
From Dhs350. Open daily 10am-10pm. Opposite Al Forsan Sports & Leisure Resort, www.pointzerofloatation.com (04 457 9991).
