Butcher & Still

Given all of old Salt Bae’s histrionics with the condiments, you’d imagine that Nus-ret is giving Butcher & Still (which sits just upstairs from it) a good run for its money when it comes to steaks. But whatever the reality of that may be, when it comes to the two rivals’ bars, it’s this one that Rihanna should be chucking on her T-shirt.
A brilliant spot for either pre- or post-dinner drinks, or pretty much anything in between, Butcher & Still’s cool-as-you-like, speakeasy vibe is the perfect way to wind down after a week stuck behind your desk. And, while you get the sense, given how laid-back the place is, that the dress code isn’t ever going to be enforced with a heavy hand, we would recommend digging out some of your finest smart-casuals for a night out here – on our visit it is packed to the rafters with a bunch of beautiful people so glamorous they wouldn’t look out of place in a Gucci ad.
The bar menu is a belter. Just try this lot on for size and attempt to stop salivating: smoked buffalo wings with blue cheese and ranch, warm cheese puffs, smoked brisket sliders with housemade pickles and heirloom tomatoes, petit steak frites, truffle fries with bernaise, a double burger with spicy aioli and, in case you had room for something cheeky after all that, oysters with shallot mignonette and lemon. Now you don’t get that at more casual venues, do you?
The mixed drinks to accompany that little lot are equally thought through and well-crafted. The staff are young and cool without ever making you want to tug them by their hipster beard and the views are, well, gorgeous. All in all? Sold.
The bottom line
Pure class, with top food, drinks and views.
