Whether you collect art or memorabilia, two new outlets in Yas Mall offer the best of both worlds. Liz Totton peruses the treasures on the walls of Gallery One and RedCarpet.

If bare white walls are not your idea of a well-loved and lived in home, then it’s time to decorate, and we know just the trick. The knowledgeable staff at Gallery One and the RedCarpet will not only help you make the challenging decision about what to hang on your walls, they will help you find the right frame and even deliver to your doorstep. This is home decorating made easy.

If you love fine art but have no time to studio hop and meet artists, let Gallery One make art acquisition a breeze. Not so into art? Perhaps memorabilia is more your thing? You’re in luck! Next door to Gallery One is RedCarpet. This venue can fulfil your dreams of having an original, signed photo of sporting heroes including Lewis Hamilton, Lionel Messi and Muhammad Ali, as well as Hollywood celebs such as Marilyn Monroe, Marlon Brando and, if you must, Justin Bieber.

The two outlets are the vision of Gregg and Jane Sedgewick. Gallery One, formed in 2005, has grown from being a 350 sq ft store to 10 retail galleries in four countries.

Gregg attributes Gallery One’s success to the ‘democratisation of art’. His dream is to create gallery spaces for all, which are welcoming and accessible, with knowledgeable staff that make art more approachable. He adds, ‘Traditionally, galleries have not been great consumer experiences – they can be austere and intimidating. At Gallery One, we are a branded experience which is consistent, familiar and friendly. Add great products by incredibly talented artists, and it’s little surprise that we are out-selling most traditional art gallery formats’.

Add RedCarpet to the mix, their newest venture that sells memorabilia, and you have the ultimate source for home decoration.

Gallery One

From high-end art to a lower range of products that make perfect gifts and souvenirs, Gallery One provides multiple entry points for you to become an art collector.

The gallery’s Collection line sells high value collectable prints by globally renowned photographers. With consumers increasingly understanding the value of photography, its inclusion is important in establishing artistic integrity for the galleries. With that in mind, Gallery One has developed strong links with leading photographers and agents.

There are also several lines of artwork created exclusively for Gallery One, which are printed in editions and limited to small numbers.

But Gallery One does more than just fine art. Their Etcetera line of notebooks, cards, picture boxes and other trinkets are priced to form a low-cost entry point to Gallery One. Jessica Spaulding, Gallery One’s retail operations manager, says, ‘Our vast selection of art-related items reflects our commitment to making the general public feel as though they can be an art consumer.’

RedCarpet sells photographic print memorabilia signed by the sitter and other hard-to-find collectibles. Items at RedCarpet are sourced through reputable dealers and the autographed prints are fully authenticated all coming with a comprehensive guarantee. Unique collectibles and signed photography at RedCarpet includes a Formula 1 helmet signed by racing legend Michael Schumacher, to a tennis ball signed by the 2013 Wimbledon champ Andy Murray.

Jessica tells us that, ‘The most expensive item we have ever sold at RedCarpet is a signed Pelé shirt which sold for Dhs300,000, and the most unusual item we received was a glove worn by Mohammad Ali.’ She adds, ‘When we get things like this, they almost always sell immediately. Anything Michael Jordan-related also sells fast. We have also sold Lewis Hamilton Championship helmets and Usain Bolt running shoes.’

Jessica says, ‘We have our regular collectors. Once a Russian client visited our Atlantis store in Dubai and purchased a few items. The gallery manager in Atlantis is a Russian speaker and immediately built a rapport with him. He ended up becoming a repeat client. Our gallery manager ended up hand-delivering RedCarpet items to him when she went home for vacation, allowing him to continue building his collection.’

If you think that you don’t have the means to be an art or memorabilia collector, let Gallery One and RedCarpet convince you otherwise. Fill your white walls the fast and easy way at Yas Mall – you might stumble upon something unforgettable.
