If you’re a government employee, you’re about to get a nice windfall of cash.

On Saturday, President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, ordered bonuses of one months’ salary for a huge number of employees.

It affects all federal government employees and retirees, civilians and military, as well as beneficiaries of social welfare services.

If you’re one of the lucky ones, the payments should hit your account before Eid Al Fitr, which should fall on June 15.

Workers will get between Dhs5,000 and Dhs50,000 as a bonus payment, depending on their salary scale.

Why are the government giving away around Dhs1.6billion all of sudden, you might ask?

Well, it’s to mark the 100th birth anniversary of the UAE's Founding Father, the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, which was on Sunday, May 6.

Shaikh Khalifa said: “Zayed is the symbol of giving and generosity. He is the one who motivates us to give and contribute even after his demise.”

Unfortunately for private sector workers, the bonuses do not extend to them.

But isn’t that a great gesture?

Time Out Abu Dhabi,
